David’s great great grandnephew makes a cemetery visit, 2006

We visited Fifteen Ravine Cemetery, Villers Plouich, France, about ten years ago, where David John Stanley HIXSON is buried. I am the grandnephew of David and my daughter Eleanor (the photographer) is David’s great grandniece. Oliver, my grandson, (who was only three years old when his mother took these pictures) is David’s great great grandnephew. He is now also a Great War history buff.

A family tree is below-

The photo shows Mrs. Ann Hixson, of Newton, wearing her son's medals, while performing the unveiling ceremony of the original (stone) Great War Memorial at Parade Gardens (as it was then known), on 3th July 1939.

Viv Davies comments- My mother, Mabel Davies nee Jones, is the niece of David Hixson and is also the niece of Arthur Jones (also on this site) and was born 21 days after he was killed. She would have been named Arthur but since she turned out to be a girl she was named after his young widow.
