Grade 7 Public Speaking
You will be making a short speech about a favorite place or a favorite activity. You must develop a slide show, poster or other visual to add interest to your speech.
Here are the steps to follow.
Decide on a subject. Choose a place that is special to you, perhaps somewhere you go on vacations. It might be a place you enjoy visiting on weekends or holidays. You could also choose to present an activity that you really enjoy. This will work better if the activity is somewhat unusual.
Make a list of what makes this subject so special. What makes it special to you, and what might interest others.
Put the main points you want to cover on a note card. This will act as the outline to your speech and can be used to help you during your presentation. Notes help a speaker to stay on track.
Write down what you want to say. You will not be reading this speech, but this will help you when you practice.
Decide what kind of visual will add interest to your speech. Your visual is supposed to help your audience get a better understanding of your subject. It should also help to keep your audience's attention.
Create your visual.
Practice your speech. You should be able to talk for 2-4 minutes about your subject. Make sure you include your visuals in your practice.
Speeches will be given in class June 15-18.
Things to consider.
Slide show: If you choose this option make sure you use google.docs presentation. You will not have your laptop after June 10. Make sure you add Ms. D. as a collaborator so you can use her laptop for your presentation. You should have 4-6 pictures that will add to your speech. If you create bullets for your slides, make them very short. They should be like notes that help you to keep your speech on track. There will be no music in your slide show.
Poster or other visual: Make sure any graphics or text are large enough to be seen in the back of the room.
Be creative in your choice of subject and visuals. No one wants to hear a boring speech.
