Week 1
Day One
The setting for A Christmas Carol is London England.
The play had the following main characters Jacob Marley, Ebenezer Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, and the ghosts.
Day Two
Juan and Maria disliked Scrooge in the beginning of the story but they liked him better toward the end.
Each of the three ghosts had their part to play.
Day Three
In the movie version, they had some great scenes.
Charles Dickens wrote A Christmas Carol one of the most famous stories ever written in the 1840's.
Day Four
Scrooges selfishness made him forget the meaning of Christmas.
Seeing that his life is filled with greed Scrooge changes his ways.
Day Five
The ghosts showed Scrooge his past present and future.
This play had good characters, and it had a good plot, and also the ending was good.
Week Two
Day One
1. Charles Dickens was born on February 7 1812 in Portsmouth England.
2. He spent most of his childhood in london and kent, the settings for many of his books.
Day Two
1. He started school when he was 9 but his education ended early.
2. Charles had to work in a sweatshop. He did not have a chance to return to school.
Day Three
The first writings were published by Dickens in 1833.
His pen name was Boz a name he liked very much.
Day Four
The Pickwick Papers his first novel made Dickens famous.
Dickens speaked all over the world on lecture tours.
Day Five
Dicken's most famous books are as follows Nicholas Nickleby, Bleak House, Great Expectations, and A Tale of Two Cities.
I like A Tale of Two Cities the best my sister likes Bleak House.
Week Three
Day One
the Caribbean Islands are a colorful mosaic of many cultures
Hispanics make up a large part of the population of cuba and puerto rico.
Day Two
There is hardly no rain on the Caribbean island of Curaçao.
It was Bob's and Barry's idea to research the Dominican Republic.
Day Three
Our plane landed in Barbados at 510 P.M., and we were very tired.
Wow The flowers on the island were nice.
Day Four
4 islands show the influence of French culture.
Everything about the Caribbean islands are interesting.
Day Five
Would you like to visit the Caribbean.
It is a real friendly vacation spot.
Week Four
Day One
1. In "The Ransom of Red Cheif," Bill Driscoll and the narrator took Red Cheif down to the south.
2. they wanted his father to pay a large ransom
Day Two
1. They be planning to ask for two thousand dollars in ransom.
2. Bill and him had about 600 dollars between the two of them.
Day Three
1. Bill said Hey, little boy! Would you like to have a bag of candy and a nice ride?
2. The boy hit bill in the eye with a piece of brick.
Day Four
1. The boy is a brat he sits on Bills chest and tries to cut off his scalp.
2. The kidnappers have to pay to get rid of Red Chief. They pay $250.
Day Five
1. Running as fast as they can the kidnappers head out of town.
2. The Ransom of Red Chief is a funny story even though kidnapping are not a funny subject.
Week Five
Day One
1. In the story "All Summer in a Day," the children on venus had never seen the sun.
2. "I think the sun is a amazing flower" Margot said to them.
Day Two
1. It was the most happiest day in Margot's life.
2. The children dont except Margot because she remembers what the sun was like.
Day Three
1. The other children didn't say nothing nice to Margot. Because they were mean.
2. The children believe it or not locked Margot in a closet.
Day Four
1. Margot learned about Venus but she was wanting to go back to Earth.
2. "The sun is much better than sun lamps" the children shouted.
Day Five
1. The children moved through the bright sunlight.
2. "All summer in a day" shows how the setting affects people. This is like other stories.
Week Six
Day One
1. The story Rip Van Winkle takes place in the catskill mountains in new york.
2. These mountains are high, and there steep cliffs are beautiful.
Day Two
1. The magical feeling of this story comes from its source a old folk tale handed down through the ages.
2. Washington Irving became famous in Europe. He also became famous in America.
Day Three
1. Rip van winkle hated work. His wife wanted him to earn a living.
2. Rip should of listened to his wife because the money would of helped his family.
Day Four
1. Rips only friend was his dog he was as henpecked as his master.
2. Rip Van Winkle an unsuccessful farmer became famous for his adventures.
Day Five
1. Rip went into the mountains. To get away from his wife.
2. We all knowed Rip would get a big surprise but what a surprise he got
Week Seven
Day One
1. Rikki-tikki-tavi is a courageous mongoose who fighted two deadly cobras.
2. Rikki-tikki-tavi saved an english family living in colonial India.
Day Two
1. Rikki-tikki-tavi willn't quit until he kills both snakes.
2. Nag the cobra is worried because he knows that a mongoose can kill a cobra.
Day Three
1. Irregardless, he didn't say nothing to his wife, Nagaina.
2. All cobras who live in gardens must be on his or her guard for a mongoose.
Day Four
1. When Nag saw Rikki-tikki-tavi, he was upset.
2. He crushed Nagainas eggs quick, so that they couldn't hatch.
Day Five
1. A mongoose can be brought into the united states only for educational medicinal or scientific purposes.
2. A mongoose is helpful in killing poisonous snakes however a mongoose is harmful to many birds.
Week Eight
Day One
1. Because a mongoose is less than two feet long you might expect it to lose in a fight with a cobra.
2. Cobras can grow as long as up to 6 feet in length.
Day Two
1. Cobras live in: Africa, Southern Asia, and the East Indies.
2. Mongeese can kill mice rats and snakes.
Day Three
1. Neither the mongoose nor the cobra are found roaming freely in North America.
2. The mongoose is a feirce animal it can be tamed.
Day Four
1. The cobra choosed it's victim carefully.
2. The cobra attacked the bird with a sharp twist.
Day Five
1. Mongooses can't be brought into the US without a permit from the bureau of sport fisheries and wildlife.
2. A mongoose has stiff yellowish-gray hair with brownish-black streaks.
Week Nine
Day One
1. In puerto rico and other spanish speaking countries, some people celebrate Three Kings' Day.
2. The holiday takes place on January, 6.
Day Two
1. The holiday celabrates the story of the Three Kings - Melchior, Balthazar, and Gaspar.
2. On the twelth day after Christmas the Three Kings was guided by a star to travel to Bethlehem.
Day Three
1. In Puerto Rico tradition says that the Three Kings rided their camels to the childrens homes.
2. The Three Kings gave fabulous presents to the children. Who had been good all year.
Day Four
1. The children leave grass for the camels in shoe boxes. They put the shoe boxes under they're beds.
2. The Kings brings gifts to children which believe in them.
Day Five
1. Their friends homes are gone to by children for parties.
2. They eat tamales, which are cornmeal pancakes filled with stuff.
Week 10
Day One
1. The night the bed fell is a funny story about James Thurber's family.
2. Each of his relatives were strange.
Day Two
1. Old Aunt Melissa who could whistle like a man thought she would die on South High Street.
2. Aunt Sarah Shoaf piled all her possessions outside her bedroom door. She did this in a nervous way.
Day Three
1. Thurbers' bed suddenly fell with a tremendous crash. The bed had always tipped over.
2. The family was screaming, running, and they started to shout.
Day Four
1. I'm all right Briggs yelled.
2. The dog an animal that never liked Briggs jumped him.
Day Five
1. Mother thinked that Father was dying.
2. Thurber turned on the light. He unlocked the door. He goes to the attic.
Week 11
Day One
1. James Thurber was born december 8 1894 in Columbus, Ohio.
2. He lost sight in one eye. A friend shot him with a BB gun.
Day Two
1. Thurber attended Ohio State University and then worked as a code clerk for the state department.
2. He moved to New York City in 1926 and became a reporter for the Evening Post.
Day Three
1. Harold Ross founded The New Yorker in 1925.
2. Thurber joined the magazine in 1927 and wrote for them for many years.
Day Four
1. In addition to writing Thurber drew cartoons for the magazine.
2. His cartoons showed sad looking animals. They also showed oversized wives with undersized husbands.
Day Five
1. Thurber drew cartoons until the 1950's in many issues of the magazine.
2. The magazine be famous for its cartoons biographies and stories.
Week 12
Day One
1. "Who is going to a new school?" the teacher asked. "It is me," Ernesto wrote in the composition.
2. Mrs Dodson, a neighbor, told Ernesto how to find the lincoln school.
Day Two
1. Friends in the barrio explained the school rules.
2. Miss Hopley sat at a roll top desk and smiled wholeheartedly.
Day Three
1. Ito can read a sentence the teacher exclaimed!
2. The korean, italian, and polish first graders all had similar moments of glory.
Day Four
1. Ernesto enjoyed his studies. And he liked his teachers.
2. Learning english, as well as getting used to a new country, take time.
Day Five
1. The first part of my story outline looked like this:

Day One
1. Annie dillard write An American Childhood so readers could learn why she became a writer.
2. Do you think you could of written a memoir like this about your childhood?
Day Two
1. Annie was seven years old the boys were a little older.
2. The kids rushed through the streets like we thought they would.
Day Three
1. Annie wore tinberline boots on account of the fact that they were waterproof.
2. Because they were exhausted, the kids ran all the way down Edgerton Avenue.
Day Four
1. It was december and the streets were very slippery.
2. Mikey and her had nowhere to go because Edgerton Ave was a dead end.
Day Five
1. Of the two children, Annie was the fastest runner.
2. Although everyone were tired, the man continued the chase.
Week 14
Day One
The poem the Village Blacksmith made Henry Wadsworth Longfellow famous.
This here poem is real long, but it is easy to read.
Day Two
The blacksmith is more stronger then the other people in the town.
The poem starts with the words “under the spreading chestnut tree.”
Day Three
The blacksmith work from morning until night he never take a break.
After working all day, rest was what the blacksmith had earned.
Day Four
In the poem they had some sad lines.
The blacksmith is kind and decent and also has courage.
Day Five
The poem tells we readers that we should forget the sad days and that we readers should go on with life.
Longfellow is considered by many people to be one of America's best poets.
Week 15
Day One
What I want to say is that Alfred Noyes is a man who was a writer who wrote a lot of poems and articles.
Legendary figures from English history were written about by Noyes.
Day Two
Noyes poem the Highwayman is about an outlaw and his love.
The fact that England had been annoyed by outlaws might have influenced his writing.
Day Three
The highwaymen, who people feared, waited on the side of the road.
The highwayman in this poem is a dashing romantic figure.
Day Four
The main characters in the poem, the outlaw and Bess.
People here the highwayma riding through the night. This is a regular occurrence.
Day Five
Bess loves the highwayman. She is the landlord's black eyed daughter.
She waits anxious for him every night.
Week 16
Day One
Edgar Allan Poe is the author of the poem annabel lee.
Poe 1809-1849 was born in Boston and had a hard life.
Day Two
The first line of the poem “Annabel Lee” is “it was many and many a year ago.”
Annabel Lee was loved by the speaker very much.
Day Three
After the poet and Annabel Lee had fallen in love. Then she died.
The angels envied both she and the poet.
Day Four
The poet had given Annabel Lee their love forever.
The speaker is sad after losing his love.
Day Five
Rhyme is a type of repetition. This is interesting to a listener.
Because fo all the repetition “Annabel Lee” has a musical sound.
