Reading:
Verify that you have read 25 books during your seventh grade year. This may include up to three summer reading books. Due 6/8
Verify that you have read at least five books by a single author. Complete your reading by 5/13 Complete an Author Study Poster on your author. Due 5/25 6/1

Write about your reading in your journal. Record comments about what you think about what you are reading as well as the amount of time you read. Pass your journal in once per week on the day it is due.
Participate in your reading group.
Process of Writing:
Revisit a piece of writing from earlier in the school year. Show that you have revised this piece to improve in. Due 4/27
Follow the steps of the writing process to complete a piece of independent writing. Due 5/20
Response to Narrative Literature:
Write a Response to Narrative Literature on a book of your choice. This response will be completed in class. You will have two class periods to complete the writing. Due 5/6 Cancelled due to NWEA testing. We worked on this standard in two other quarters.
Follow the guidelines to create a presentation and deliver it to the class. Due Week of 6/6

Third Quarter 1/25/16-4/1/16
Reading:
Verify that you have read 6 books since the beginning of the quarter. This includes books read in reading groups. Due 4/1
Verify that you have read a total of 18 books (includes summer reading) Due 4/1
Write about your reading in your journal. Record comments about what you think about what you are reading as well as the amount of time you read. Pass your journal in once per week on the day it is due.
Participate in your reading group.
Choose an author for your author study. Complete an Author Study Selection form. Due 1/29
Make sure you have read at least 3 books by your selected author by the end of the quarter. Due 4/1
Report Writing:
Follow the steps of the writing process to complete a multi-genre research project. Due 3/18
Response to Narrative Literature:
Complete a Response to Literature based on "The Christmas Hunt" by Borden Deal. Due 2/5
Public Speaking:
Prepare a presentation about your research subject to present to the class. These will be presented in class the week of 3/28. Due 4/1

Write about your reading in your journal. Record comments showing what you think about what you are reading as well as the amount of time you read. Pass your journal in once per week on the day it is due.

Argumentative Writing:
Complete an argumentative essay on a subject chosen in cooperation with Ms. D. Due 1/13
Response to Narrative Literature:
Complete one Response to Literature with assistance and feedback. Due 11/18
Public Speaking/Read Aloud:
Prepare a Book Chat and present it to the class. This can be used to verify one book. Presentations will begin 1/19 and end 1/22.
Standard English Conventions:
Sentence Work: This work is ongoing throughout the quarter. The argumentative essay and response to narrative literature will also be graded for this standard.
First Quarter 8/26/15-10/30/15
Reading:
Verify that you have read six books since the beginning of the school year. Reading Rubric Due 10/30
Write about your reading in your journal. Record comments about what you think about what you are reading as well as the amount of time you read. Pass your journal in once per week on the day it is due.

Narrative Writing:
Follow the steps of the writing process to write a realistic fiction story. Due 10/16
Standard English Conventions:
Simple Sentence Work: This work is ongoing throughout the quarter.
The realistic fiction story will also be graded for this standard.
