Write poems about winter. You may write about winter holidays if you choose.
*You must write a cinquain poem, using either syllable or word format.
*You must write a haiku which is focused on nature.
*Write at least three other poems using any format you choose, ten line minimum. Work to include at least one of the following literary devices in your poems. Be prepared to explain which device you are using.
*You will make a poetry bag. You will make a recording of the poem from you poetry bag.
Alliteration: repetition of the initial sounds of words, usually consonants
example: The river rose rapidly.
Repetition: repeating a particular word or phrase several times for emphasis.
Rhyme: using words that rhyme in a particular pattern
Onomatopoeia: using words that are like sound effects
example: We heard the zoom of the jet overhead.
Simile: a comparison using “like” or “as” to point out a similar quality in two generally unlike things.
example: The small room was like an oven.
Metaphor: also points out a similar quality in two generally unlike things but does not use “like” or “as” Sometimes a metaphor simply states that two things are the same.
example: Jealousy is a knife that cuts deeply.
Imagery: language that appeals to the senses of hearing, touch, taste, sight, or smell
