Obituary Format
An article published in the newspaper announcing the death of an individual. This piece often includes:
¶1 place of death - all in upper case letters like a dateline
date of death
date of birth - may include place of birth
cause of death - this is not always included
parents’ names
where the person lived.
1-4¶’s information about the person’s life such as:
education
career, job
hobbies or preferred activities
groups the person belonged to
important accomplishments
1 ¶ names of family members
both those who died previously (predeceased) and survivors
1 ¶ information concerning services and burial
“in lieu of flowers...”ways to honor the person instead of sending flowers - usually donate to a group, project or other cause
Since this is a news article of sorts, you should format your paper into columns. If you are on googledocs, you will make a 2x1 table to act as columns. An important news figure may have a special headline. You might include a picture of your person at the beginning of the obituary. Again, look at examples in the newspaper.
