As practice for the Public Speaking standard, prepare a Book Chat to present to the class. You will use this to verify one book.
Let Ms. Doyle know when you are ready to present your Book Chat.
You will need to write down the information you will present. You may refer to these notes as you present your chat.
Here's how to prepare.
Choose a book you have enjoyed.
Begin with a "hook". This might be a quote from the book, a question, or an interesting fact about the book.
Be sure to tell the title and author of the book.
You are expected to answer the following questions.
1. Where and when does this book take place? (1-2 sentences)
2. Who is the main character and what makes she or he interesting to read about? (2-3 sentences)
3. Tell us about the plot, but don't give away the ending! Think about the conflict and important events.(3-4 sentences)
4. Pick an interesting passage to read to the class. This should be at least 1/2 page long, but no longer than one page. Be prepared to tell why you chose this passage.
5. Why is this book interesting? (2-3 sentences)
6. What makes this a good book? (2-3 sentences)
7. What type of student would enjoy this book, why? (2-3 sentences)
Conclude your Book Chat with a sentence that wraps it up. You could say something like, "That concludes my presentation, thanks for listening."
Be creative! You want to get your audience interested in the book!
