This unit will include poems read as a class, poems read with a partner, and poems read by yourself.
The poems read as a class will be discussed in class. You must be present, and participating to count these poems.
You will complete a poetry chart noting the poems you read. Chart of poetry read Fill in all the information required. You must read a minimum of 200 lines of poetry AND respond in writing to at least two poems. You must read from a variety of poets and sources, no more that two poems by any poet. For this unit we will be reading poems from the books available in class. This poetry unit will be counted as the equivalent of one book on your reading record.
Class poems included in this unit:
Day One: "O Captain! My Captain!" by Walt Whitman
Day Two: "Mother to Son" by Langston Hughes
Day Three: "Willow and Ginkgo" by Eve Merriam
Day Four: "Moco Limping" by David Nava Monreal
Day Five: "The Highwayman" by Alfred Noyes
You will also write two poems.
One poem will be a metaphor poem. (10 line minimum)
The other poem will have examples of imagery. (10 line minimum)
