Debate Tournament (Grade 7 - 9)

November 9, 2023

Time: Tuesday, November 9th 2023. Registration from 4:30 to 5:00. Awards around 8:30 PM

Location: St. Paul’s High School, 2200 Grant Ave., Winnipeg

Resolution: Two prepared rounds: THB It should be mandatory for students  K-12 to learn a second language.

Constructive speeches may be no longer than six minutes and final rebuttals may be no longer than three minutes.


The tournament will have both novice and open categories. The novice category is open to students in their first year of debate. All other debaters must register in open. POIs are welcome in the open category, but not in novice unless both teams agree to having POIs.

Schools may enter a maximum of three (3) teams total, although more spots may be available. Should a school wish to send more than three teams, please email me at amcgill@stpauls.mb.ca; you will be contacted if there is available space.

Schools are reminded that they must bring at least one judge per team. Judges may be Grade 10-12 students who have debate experience. More judges than the minimum are graciously welcomed.
