Debaters MAY NOT use the internet to research their arguments, and they MAY NOT bring in outside books or resources to prepare.

Each debater has 5 minutes to speak. The first and last 30 seconds are protected time. This means that no POIs may be offered during this time. The Speaker will give a signal at the end and the beginning of protected time, at the five-minute mark, and at the end of a short grace period extending no longer than 15 seconds. The Speaker will probably not give time signals otherwise, so it is recommended that debaters bring a stopwatch to time themselves or their partner.
