Em “Ruling the Void”, (2013) Peter Mair reflecte sobre o vazio da democracia Ocidental, referindo que os partidos democráticos ficaram desconectados da sociedade. Os homens ficaram escravos dos partidos e o que está em primeiro lugar são os interesses pessoais dos partidos do arco do poder. Os programas políticos tornaram-se indiferençáveis e cheios de clichés. O que é bom para a nação é dado por representantes eleitos sob condições de doutrinação eficaz e livremente aceite. A noção de perda de soberania com indiferença à política e à democracia, espalhou um sentimento antipolítico. A democracia está a ser redefinida através da globalização e da europeização.

 (…), a grande massa do povo teimava em acreditar que dirigia o país através dos seus votos. Na realidade o país era dirigido por aquilo a que se chamava as máquinas políticas. A princípio os cabecilhas das máquinas sobrecarregavam os grandes capitalistas com exorbitantes taxas para a legislação, mas em breve os grandes capitalistas verificaram que lhes saía mais barato possuir eles próprios as máquinas políticas e alugar os respectivos cabecilhas.” (O Tacão de Ferro, Jack London)

O totalitarismo invertido surge através do sistema tradicional do governo e da representação "privada" anónima, funda um sistema que representa a política do poder corporativo – corporatocracia. “Democracy Incorporated: Managed Democracy and the Specter of Inverted Totalitarianism” (2008) Sheldon Wolin “ (...) o que está em jogo, é a tentativa de transformar uma sociedade tolerante e livre em uma variante dos regimes extremos do século passado". O autor cunha o termo totalitarismo invertido devido a falta de envolvimento dos cidadãos na política e na sociedade. A privatização das entidades públicas, as influências corporativas através da média, especialmente com os diversos comentadores políticos cúmplices do processo, espalha a ideologia. A liberdade intelectual foi absorvida pela doutrinação em massa, os forjadores da opinião pública são a mais eficaz e resistente forma de propaganda contra a libertação. O cidadão é constantemente bombardeado com propaganda de terrorismo e afins. Manipulado e amedrontado vai cada vez mais vendo as suas liberdades e a sua participação no governo serem restringidas, resta o excesso de consumo e do sensacionalismo. A população passou a viver num estado de apatia política. O totalitarismo invertido é um sistema em que as empresas internacionais subverteram a democracia. A crise das dívidas soberanas confirmou a reviravolta, a partir desta data a economia sobrepôs-se à política, corrompendo-a. Todos os recursos naturais e os seres vivos são agora submetidos e explorados até à sua exaustão ou desaparecimento.

Esta forma invertida do totalitarismo clássico domina a Europa. Os agentes económicos deste regime “fascista” são as corporações internacionais que através de contribuições políticas e do lobby dominam o “governo” da União Europeia, um fantoche ao serviço das multinacionais. A União Europeia é agora um sistema político sob o controlo de grupos económicos de pressão que não reconhece limites à sua autoridade. A ideologia é um esquema generalizado de valores, promulgado por meios institucionais para orientar a maioria. O neoliberalismo é componente integrante do totalitarismo invertido. As pessoas sentem-se impotentes e politicamente inactivas. Esta ideia de poder político “total” é um sistema que politiza tudo o que é espiritual e humano. É um regime burocrático, centralizou todos os processos de decisão no “Bunker“ de Bruxelas, num suposto Parlamento Europeu que é directamente eleito, e afirma que representa os cidadãos da União Europeia. A burocratização do aparelho estatal através de um núcleo de fiéis servidores representa o partido único. As tendências burocráticas de regulamentação da vida humana utilizadas no estado “Nazi” são opostas à ideia de liberdade do ocidente. A União Europeia trabalha exactamente como um “estado fascista”. Ambas as sociedades, capitalista e a fascista tendem a ser totalitárias ambas iludem as massas.

Durante a história moderna, o que caracterizou os governos da Europa e da América do Norte foi o constitucionalismo liberal e não a democracia. Esta é a mudança que observamos da democracia popular para a democracia constitucional e o declínio do processo eleitoral e dos seus partidos. A partir de agora os sistemas de governação combinam a participação de acções e seus agentes com a resolução de problemas e a sua eficiência. Os partidos abandonaram o seu povo. Um vazio democrático instalou-se e as eleições têm cada vez menos participantes. A cada vez maior importância do governo europeu e outras organizações internacionais supranacionais dominam o mundo. Privatizar e tornar independentes as diversas áreas de intervenção política são dados a especialistas dessas áreas. Este modelo serve para delegar poderes às instituições que não estão envolvidas nos votos do povo e nos respectivos representantes políticos. As tradicionais formas de controlo do estado estão a ser substituídas por modelos regulamentados de excelência. O eleitorado não interessa, as discussões na União Europeia e a sua política estão para além dos estados soberanos e das suas democracias populares. Estamos a assistir a transformação dos partidos em audiência partidária, assistimos meramente à vídeo política. Com a democracia gerida, o eleitorado é impedido de ter um impacto significativo sobre as políticas adoptadas. Os políticos esqueceram o compromisso com o bem comum, da sua nação. A grande maioria da população desistiu de ter esperança no governo, já não acredita na mudança. O derrube das antigas estruturas institucionais nacionais bem como o interesse das velhas classes dominantes em conluio com as corporações internacionais açambarcam tudo e todos. O “fascismo” europeu é mais proveitoso ao capital.

What is good for the nation is given by representatives elected under conditions of effective indoctrination and freely accepted. The notion of loss of sovereignty with indifference to politics and democracy spread anti-political sentiment. Democracy is being redefined by globalization and Europeanization.

Inverted Totalitarianism arises through the traditional system of government and representation "private" anonymous, founded a system that represents the corporate power politics - corporatocracy. The citizen is constantly bombarded with terrorism propaganda and related information. Manipulated and frightened the citizen will increasingly see that their freedoms and their participation in the government are restricted, remains over-consumption and sensationalism. The population is now living in a state of political apathy. Inverted Totalitarianism is a system in which international companies have subverted democracy. The sovereign debt crisis has confirmed the turnaround, from this date the economy overrode politics, corrupting it. This inverted classical totalitarianism dominates Europe. The economic agents of this "fascist" regime are international corporations through political contributions and lobbying that dominates the "government" of the European Union, a puppet at the service of multinationals. The European Union is now a political system under the control of economic pressure groups that do not recognize limits to his authority. Ideology is a generalized scheme of values, promulgated by institutional means to guide the majority. Neoliberalism is an integral component of Inverted Totalitarianism. The people feel powerless and politically inactive. This political idea as "total" power is a system that politicized all that is spiritual and human. It is a bureaucratic regime, centralized all decision-making processes in the "Bunker" of Brussels, a European Parliament supposed to be directly elected, and states representing the citizens of the European Union. The bureaucratization of the state apparatus through a core of faithful servants is the only party. Bureaucratic tendencies of regulation of human life used by the "Nazi" are opposed to Western freedom of idea. The European Union works exactly like a “fascist state”. Both societies, capitalist and fascist tend to be totalitarian, both delude the masses.

During modern history, what characterized governments in Europe and North America was the liberal constitutionalism and not democracy. This is the change we observe the people's democracy to constitutional democracy and the decline of the electoral process and their parties. From now on the governance systems combine the participation of actions and their agents with the problem solving and efficiency. The parties have abandoned their people. A democratic emptyness settled and elections have fewer participants. The increasing importance of European government and other international supranational organizations rule the world. Privatize and make independent the various policy areas of intervention are given to specialists in these areas. This model serves to empower the institutions that are not involved in the votes of the people and their political representatives. The traditional state forms of control are being replaced by regulated models of excellence. The electorate does not matter; the discussions in the European Union and its policy are beyond the sovereign states and their people's democracies. We are witnessing the transformation of parties in party audience; we merely watched the politics video. With a managed democracy, the electorate is prevented from having a significant impact on the policies adopted. Politicians have forgotten the commitment to the common good of their nation. The vast majority of the population gave up hope in the government, no longer believes in change. The overthrow of the old national institutional structures as well as the interest of the old ruling classes in collusion with international corporations hoards everything and everyone. The European "fascism" is more profitable to capital.
