The following are default ranges for various classes of weapons. For every multiple of this default range, add one Difficulty Dice against the attack. This is in addition to whatever defense the target might have.
q Thrown weapons = 10’
q Slings, Atlatls, etc = 20’
q Short bows = 30’
q Medium bows = 60’
q Long bows = 90’
q Pistols = 25’
q SMG’s = 30’
q Assault rifles = 50’
q Regular rifles = 60’
q Mounted firearms = 75’
q Energy weapons = 100’
The above is a rough guide. Some weapons are better or worse than others within their class, and that can be taken into account if you have the time and interest to research such things.
Any thrown weapon loses 1 dice of damage per DD past Hard (3DD).
Any leverage weapon (such as a sling) loses 1 dice of damage per DD past VH (4DD).
Any bow loses 1 dice of damage per DD past XH (5DD)
Any gun loses 1 dice of damage per DD past Brutal (6DD)
Any energy weapon loses 1 dice of damage per DD past Unbelievable (7DD)
Example: Our Viking throws his spear at a target 40’ away. This is 4 x range, so Very Hard (4DD). In addition, even if he hits, he’ll lose one dice of damage.
Polearms have a range of their length, but they are ineffective within half that range.
