Spell magic uses set spells that (normally) work like SFX. If Spell Magic is the power, the Regular Cast Member can learn and cast such spells as ordinary skills. If spell-casting is being developed solely through Plot Points, spells are Supernatural, and may be Unusual as well.
In either case spell-casters are limited to spells they have actually learned. Acquiring new spells might be kinda tricky outside of magical environments.
Casting a spell requires a task roll and causes exhaustion, unless cast using a Chip. With a Chip the success is automatic, and the spell does not incur exhaustion.
Absent of a chip, the Difficulty defaults to Brutal [6DD] (as a Supernatural Power), but more difficult spells (higher “level” if adapting from other systems) can be set at higher difficulty.
Absent of a Chip, spell casting exhausts at d6x regular exhaustion. Note that this is instead of the x3 exhaustion of other supernatural powers.
It is possible to increase the parameters of the spell while casting. Each such increase adds 1DD and exhausts as if one additional action (before the d6 multiplier). This can be in place of or in addition to any other stunts.
