Sunday, back to the Forest
Doorn / Driebergen Rijsenburg / Zeist / Maarn
After the violent incident on Sunday evening January 25, I like to think of good moments. As this one, happened in October.; Walking through the city of Tilburg i met this 85 year old man sitting on his walking frame in the middle of the road. He saw me and said; ,, You've been in the army, I can tell that. You walk upright ". I became intrigued, because the army is already 20 years ago and walked towards him. When i asked how he was doing, he told he lived in a mental health institution and complained about the nurses. He said how he had been married, became tired of it all and became manic depressive for over 30 years now. He said he could not stand sitting indoors. We talked on how he in the 50's was stationed in the Marines as medical help for 5 years in the village Doorn in the center of the Netherlands and how much he had enjoyed that.I was surprised. Doorn and the medical unit ?. I have been in the medical unit myself and recently i told you my grandfather fought alongside with American marines, my grandmother was nurse and helper of resistance in the 2nd world war. After the war they got a house near the marines training center. The forest, one of the oldest areas of forest in the Netherlands, between my grandmothers house and the marines base was their exercise area. It's a piece of my childhood because they were regular doing exercises with riffles and blanks in those woods. Because my mother was visiting grandma and mymother often became annoying I went four times per week to this forest and stayed the whole day away. Obviously I could not stay on the trails. I learned to go through the woods silently so I could approach the deers and pheasants very close. I liked to stand in the darkest part of the forest to see how the world changed around me. At my 20th i saw the last of this part, but in my army-time i went to other parts of the same area. Ah, 15 minutes later, their she came running out, the indignant nurse with the worried look and crossed arms. Ha, He could have escaped by now. To another city. Right ?. She said the gentleman had to be inside and obviously, she was cold. Mr. Gent shook my hand. Wished me good luck. And i did wish him the best. Some Links
