On the photos you can see the courtyard between Fabriekstraat, Noordstraat and Stationsstraat, enclosed by houses. Sometimes, it's like a forest. Lots of birds, a lot of depth in the sound. Here is my room, where, at my desk, I have a view over a very large enclosed courtyard. It is a quiet place, in the middle of a normally busy center. A few hundred meters at central station, police station and fire station. Then you know. The old and big trees are in the neighbors' gardens. From my window I look straight into two trees. Every day, at 2 or 3 meters, I have a blackbirds, red robins, tree creepers, nuthatches and all sort of finches and tits. Sometimes even on my window. And occasionally, a club of long-tailed tits comes along. I have had a pigeon nest and even a nest with three young jays. The young jays returned for months to the parental nest. One even came in the morning and afternoon for four months. I hear whistling and little bird sounds all day and night. That could make a man go crazy, I am amazed by this grace, about this oasis in the middle of the city.

Many bats also fly around. At the front, back of our building, and over our roof terrace. From dusk in the evening until dusk in the morning. First time I walked out onto the terrace at eight o'clock in the evening, and almost a bat flew against me. When I told the homeowner the next morning, he asked: Are bats here, then ?.Every now and then, I am on the lookout. With coffee. Something happened in the corner of my eye. I watched, and I saw within three seconds, two bats hanging still for one second. Doing something, 5 meters away. On the next round, 20 minutes later, I saw three heads come out a small hole, just in time. Because the feeding happens so fast..

Now that it is quiet in the city, the birds sound much clearer. Distance 150 meter
