Hazy Shades
(lemon)
the #Netherlands City of #Tilburg - Januari 2021
The sign at coffeeshop Africa in the city of Tilburg said 40,- euro ($ 48.90) for 5 gram of lemon haze. The man hands me a sealed zip lock bag. I ask: Where does this come from ?. He answers: 'Normal, new packaging'. I ask: Is it from America ?. 'No' the man says. Me: It is from here ?. 'Yes' he replies. Now, it is not the first time, that this shop "just says something" even though I have bought 50% my products here, for the past six years.
Well, from my desk, There is a warning on the packaging: "This product may expose you to chemicals, including marijuana smoke, which is known to the state of California to cause cancer. For more inf..." So.. California. Do I pronounce that correctly ?. Under my little microscope I see a lot of glassy crystals, looks really good in itself. It has been compressed here and there. Smells as haze. And intoxicatingly delicious.
Only it is not 5 but 3.5 gram. I discovered after cleaning the black marker spot with solvent. Back to the shop. The man tells they bought these bags, empty and they do their own weed in there. "You should not look at the bag" and he empties a bag on the scale: 5.1 gram. He thinks he is not doing anything wrong. I am amazed, with 40 years coffee shop experience I have never experienced this before.
Just this week, I had a conversation with a coffee shop owner. He had some new cbd hash. He told, it still contains 4% THC. So, he has a small test device, from the USA and gets the analysis on his phone. Funny, I've known this device for 6 years, shared it on social media but I don't have the money to buy such a device. I asked him if he could test something for me every now and then. Now he's starting to get nervous. Because under our laws, you can still do for yourself, but for others it is a problem. You cannot have your weed tested in the Netherlands.
(apologies for photo quality. My devices are out of date) The cannabis (bag) turns out to be 'Lemonnade'. (on 'There All Lemonnade') A company with branches in California and Orlando, founded by Berner and Brett Wilson (Growing Passion). Everyone uses transparent grip bags. If you buy a jar of peanut butter, from a well-known brand, but there is something else in it, you still feel cheated. And that in the country, where the first seeds from Columbia, Thailand, Afghanistan and Africa were crossed early 70's, or coffeeshops and cannabis tourism were invented, indoor weed started after 86, and after WWII became a transit port for drugs and thus hashish smuggling. Did I mention the War ?. It may look as one large flower, but they are loose buds. After opening and 3 day's it becomes much too dry, very quickly. It turns into powder. Still, quality when smoking is amazing. At least, if it were fresh. A few hours after a double dose, smoking remains pleasant, tasty and soft, not sharp. Not to be compared with the fresh and 'local' Gelato Biologico from last time. With this, questions arise, as, what is production date, what is percentage of THC and similar substances. And in what way is this weed was handled, given the fact some buds have been slightly compressed. Which brings back memories, again, of smuggled weeds from Columbia, Thailand, Afghanistan and Africa in the '70/'80's.
