Country Reports and Profiles
- CIA World Factbook - an important resource, but quite detailed. Be sure to watch for the rank order icon so you can figure out how your country stacks up against others.
- BBC Country Profiles - This has overviews of each country, but also includes some information on the current government leaders, the media (newspapers, TV, radio), a nice historical timeline, and links to current news stories
- Factmonster Countries - the information here comes from the CIA World Factbook, the State Department, several encyclopedias, and other major resource.
- Index Mundi Africa - This site contains detailed country statistics, charts, and maps compiled from multiple sources.
- U.S. State Dept. Background Notes - These publications include facts about the land, people, history, government, political conditions, economy, and foreign relations of countries worldwide.
- United Nations Countries at a Glance - choose your country to be taken to a page with a brief overview. Click on the tabs to see information about the economy, environment, health and technology. Compares data over time or to world measures.
- UN InfoNation - Compare data about different countries.
- Answers.com Places - note that some of the information here comes from Wikipedia, so that part may be of questionable quality
