Project Overview

This project is divided into FOUR parts.

PARTS 1 & 2 are a test grade for 1st Quarter

PARTS 3 & 4 are grades for 2nd Quarter

(1) The WRITTEN portion will require you to tell how your REAL person showed courage or was courageous through his/her work or actions. DUE 11/2

(2) The VISUAL part will require you to create a visual representing your person and his/her courageous act. DUE 11/2

(3) The PRESENTATION part is a 2-3 minute speech that you will have to give in front of the class explaining in your opinion why your person is courageous. DUE: 11/7, 11/9 & 11/10

(4) The ONLINE part will require you to submit your final written portion on a secure web site and then read and respond to your classmates’ projects. DUE: 11/14

This is an individual project; you MAY NOT work in groups or pairs.

Below are the specific details for each component of this project.

• This research project will have due dates based on overall classroom instruction and student progress.
• Please check the website regularly for ongoing updates.
• Some of the project will be done at school and some of it will be done at HOME.

PART I: RESEARCH and WRITING -DUE 11/2

Pre-Search – you will conduct pre-search on October 11, 2011

WHERE: Students will work in the computer lab at school (if absent then @ home)

• Submit your research person using the online form found at http://tiny.cc/7goldtopic
• If you do not make a selection, I will select a person for you

Research – First Research Day is Friday, October 14, 2011

How does your person show courage through life experiences or achievements?

WHERE will the research occur? MOSTLY at school and if students do not complete class work then at home

• Focus on finding 2 to 5 accomplishments of your person that display courage
• Find 2-3 direct quotes that you can use in your writing
• Write a works cited page using proper MLA format for all the sources you use during your research (keep track)
• You must have at LEAST TWO sources – ONE Digital and ONE print

Write one to three paragraph(s) answering the question - How does your person show courage through life experiences or achievements?

• You must have a topic sentence or hook to get the reader interested in your information
• Provide ample evidence and support from the research
• Use at least one direct quote using proper MLA format
• Write a Works Cited page for your sources
• Write a conclusion

PART II: VISUAL PROJECT - DUE 11/2

WHERE: This part of the project will be done at HOME.

Each student should create a visual project – the visual should be something that is well, visual. Here are some suggestions or options, but I don’t want 100 posters so be creative:

• 3-D model
• Conduct an Experiment
• PowerPoint Presentation
• Poster
• Timeline
• Craft
• Skit/drama/dance/song
• Original artwork

PART III: SPEECH - DUE 11/7, 11/9 & 11/10

WHERE: This part of the assignment will be done at SCHOOL and HOME.

• Each student will write and present a 2-3 minute speech sharing the VISUAL portion of the project with the class.
• Students will have to write a speech

PART IV: ONLINE WEBSITE and RESPONSES – DUE 11/14

WHERE: At school and at HOME

• Students will submit their final writing on a secure website
• Students will have to read and write comments on at least four different projects
• Comments cannot be short and silly they should be thoughtful.
