Today in class you are getting a research checklist. Your parent/guardian must sign it.

When you go to the library tomorrow you will need to take 2-column notes AND keep track of where the information came from. The books and websites you use are called sources. You will need to cite them for the written portion of the project.

You will track your sources by filling out a citation worksheet for each book or website that you use. There are different worksheets for regular books than for encyclopedias & reference books. (we will introduce you to the worksheet for websites another day.)

    • Book citation worksheet - view online or download Word doc
    • Encyclopedia/Reference book citation worksheet - view online or download Word doc

Today's Question:

    • Who are some courageous people in history?

Today's Goals:

    • To read about some famous and not-so-famous people who exhibited courage during their lives.
    • To take notes, using the supplied graphic organizers, on at least one assigned person, and one person of your choice, from the supplied list.

What you are doing today:

    1. Using InfoPlease and/or Wikipedia, read about at least two people. One will be a person assigned to you, the other will be your choice from this list. If you have time, you may choose more.
    2. Fill out graphic organizers for each person you read about today. If you need graphic organizers at home, see the links at right.
  1. Here is a sample of what your organizer will look like.

Homework:

    • Select your #1 choice and one to two backup choices of a person whom you are interested in researching. They should be from the supplied list.
    • Fill out an online form with that information, and will need to say WHY this person interests you.
    • Note: If you do not want to research either of the people you read about in class, you may choose another name from the list provided. Use the extra blank organizer to take notes.
