Reel numbers

This page includes links to microfilm reel numbers for ordering newspapers. After you find the microfilm number, you can order the microfilm and read it at the Wisconsin Historical Society (WHS) in Madison, or, if your library allows it, have the microfilm sent to your local library.

Write down the entire microfilm number which begin with the letter "P" (for "positive") such as P28745. You'll need this number to find the microfilm box in the Microforms Room at WHS, or to order the microfilm to be sent to your local library.

Numbers beginning with N are "negative" microfilm that need to be converted to positive. Contact the librarian at WHS to order a positive microfilm (there will be no charge for this). You may need to wait days or weeks for the film to be made into a positive.
