Heritage banners

Plain, Sauk County, Wisconsin

Heritage banners were created for the Village of Plain, Sauk County, Wisconsin, to commemorate its Bavarian heritage.

Donations were collected from participating descendants to purchase the new banners that were installed on new street lights and elsewhere around the village. Most of the banners were installed in time for Plain’s "Strassenfest" (street festival) held on October 7, 2017.

About June 2017, someone from the village created a table with 3 columns (Year, Name, Location in Germany). It's not clear what location in Germany could mean - birth place, baptismal place, marriage place, last residence, port of departure? Some of the information did not match with my research. Some Plain area settlers had the same last name but may have not been from the same town and emigrated on different dates; for instance, see Ring, Volk, and Weiss.

A good source for finding information about families from the Waldmünchen area is the DVD, “Genealogies of families that immigrated to Sauk County, Wisconsin, from Bavaria, Germany. The collected works of Georg Ederer, Otto Horz, and Hansjörg Schneider” published in 2011. For more info about the DVD see: https://sites.google.com/site/auswanderer20/ Look for pedigrees and family charts created by Georg Ederer; look for emigration information in the Otto Horz dissertation (there is a name index on the DVD).

I may have other information that is not listed here. Feel free to contact me: Contact
