Merie Mohelnitzky

Merie was the youngest daughter of Conrad Mohelnitzky and Mary Fastner. She was born June 15, 1912, at Germantown, Richland County, Wisconsin.

Merie C. Mohelnitzky was married on September 30, 1931, to Anton M. Blau. Anton was born July 24, 1904, in Franklin Township, Sauk County, Wisconsin, the son of Joseph Blau (emigrant from Gleissenberg, Bavaria) and Anna Gruber Blau.

The wedding took place at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church in Germantown, Richland County, Wisconsin. Performing the ceremony was Rev. Alois J. Daniels.

MARRIED

The new church of St. Anthony at Cazenovia at 9 o'clock Wednesday was the scene of the wedding of Miss Merie Madeline Mohelnitzky, daughter of Mrs. Theodore Bauer, and Mr. Anton Blau, son of Mrs. Joseph Blau, Plain, Wisconsin.

The Rev. Daniels of Cazenovia officiated.

An ivory satin copy of a Martial Armond gown, floor length, with sleeves of Alencon lace and a bodice cut in a low V was worn by the bride, whose veil was of tulle with a lace cap and a five-yard train. She carried a shower bouquet of white Killarney roses and lily of the valley. He[r] slippers were white brocade and her gloves of white kid.

A light blue chiffon dress with an orange sash and head band to match was the ensemble of the maid of honor, Miss Clare [Clara] Blau, sister of the groom. She carried an arm bouquet of Talisman roses.

The two bridesmaids, Miss Marcella Duren, cousin of the bride, and Miss Dorothy LaRue, were clothed in Pink. Both had colonial bouquets headbands of ribbon.

Carring [Carrying] rose petals and garden flowers, five year-old Helen [Helene] Ostermeyer, niece of the groom served as flower girl. She wore ruffled pink, flat crepe. The groom was attended by his brother, George Blau, and Herman Blau, cousin of the groom was usher.

The wedding marches and the "Rosary" were played by Miss Delia Greisbach.

The bride was given in marriage by her father. [step-father]

A wedding breakfast for the bridal party was held at the bride's home.

Mr. and Mrs. A. Blau have left for Milwaukee and Northern Wisconsin. They will be at home at Plain, Wisconsin after October 10.

Note: Merie's middle name was Christine - she used the name Madeline for a time. Her mother was Mary Fastner Mohelnitzky Bauer. Her father, Conrad Mohelnitzky, had died March 17, 1914. Theodore Bauer was Mary Fastner's second husband. Merie wore the veil of her cousin, Eleanore Geib.

Merie and Anton had nine children. They farmed two miles north of Plain in Franklin Township, Sauk County, Wisconsin, until October 1962. After this, they lived in Fond du Lac for eight years, in Saukville for five years, and later in Plain.
