2011年(平成23年)

6月西野(Methylation dynamics)論文が発表される。いろんな人に連絡し、褒めてもらおうと努力。内容的にはとても気に入っている。なんといっても、今まで言われていたことへの反駁とモデルの証明(確率論)。

自らの業績は別に新聞でのコメントを言う立場になる。

5月に副所長、再生医療センター長に任命される。

3月11日 大震災。午後6時から午前3時まで、家族、ラボメンバーを守るべく指示、移動を繰り返す。

4月 西野氏が宮崎大学独立准教授に。とてもいいところ。UCSDみたい。ペットの再生医療を。

寺井氏、豊田氏と共に独立していく人が増える。とてもいいことだけど、寂しくもある。

3月 世古氏が国立リハビリテーションセンターへ移動。国家公務員に。

2010年(平成22年)

崔さんが9月に米国へ出国。私のラボには8年くらいいた。

今日のNHKスペシャルは、長生き遺伝子。

長生き遺伝子って言えば、その昔、古い校舎の4階で、同級生が教授から細胞の長生き遺伝子を見つけろという指示を貰っていたっけ。1984年の話です。正直言って、当時はどうするんだろうと思っていた。だいたい、どうやって見つけりゃいいんだっていう感じだった。最終的には、ブラックバーン博士が細胞の長生き遺伝子を見つけてノーベル賞をとった。その当時、学生だった今井眞一郎氏は、朝から晩まで実験して、細胞の長生きの指標(スケールっていうのかなマーカーっていうのかな)を発見し、国際誌に発表しました。すんごい努力で、いろんなものをかなぐり捨てて、科学に没頭していました。

その後、今井眞一郎氏は25年間米国を中心に活躍して、個体の長生き遺伝子を発見し、寿命延長を実現しようとしています。細胞だけじゃなく、個体ですよ。すごいよね。その話が今日のNHKスペシャル。良い意味でも、そうでない意味でも話題になるんじゃないかな。

娘と一緒にNHKスペシャルを見て、このおじさんはお友達だよと言って自慢し、寝ていた妻を起こして見させました。今井眞一郎氏は、「光陰矢のごとし、学成りがたし」と言ってがんばっていましたが、画面上では若々しかったです。さすがに、老化の科学者だけあります。秘密の薬を飲んでいるのかもしれません。今度、個人的に教授いただこうかと思います。残念ながら、このブログの読者にはまだ教えられないと思いますけど、僕の記憶力が良くなったら、ああ今井さんから情報を貰っているなと思ってください。

そんなことを思っていたら、米国で活躍している今井教授から電話を貰いました。子どもには、「ほら、さっきのテレビに出演していた教授は友達だろう。」と伝え、父親の株が上がりました。今井教授は、この8月と12月に一時帰国するそうです。運の良い方は講演を聴くことができるかもしれません。
