In this topic, students will:
describe and compare objects by length and height
describe and compare objects by capacity
describe and compare objects by weight
use measurable attributes to describe different objects
use small objects to measure length
Vocabulary:
Length - how far from end to end
Height - measures how tall something is
Capacity - the maximum amount a container can hold
Weight - how heavy something is
Attribute - the measurable attributes of an object can be weight, capacity, length, and height.
Balance scale - a tool used to compare weight
At-home Practice:
Supplies:
paper clips or any other small objects that can be used to measure
Find a small object around the house (ex. pencil, marker, remote, etc.). Use the paper clips (or other objects) and line them up to see how many paper clips long the object is. Continue to find objects and measure them. You can discuss which objects are longer or shorter.
The pencil is about 5 paper clips long.
