Overview
Students will develop an understanding of multiplication and division within 100. Third graders will use mental strategies (count on, make 10, etc.) to multiply and divide within 100 with ease. Students will solve multi-step word problems using the four operations (+, −, ×, ÷) Students will develop an understanding of fractions. Students will explain what the numerator and denominator of a fraction is. Students will also have an understanding of the place value system. Students will be able to round to the nearest ten or hundred. Students will use both addition and multiplication to see if the area of a rectangle will stay the same. Students will use arrays (4×5, 5×4) to determine the area of shapes. Students will describe and analyze two-dimensional shapes.
