In this topic, students will:
use a hundred chart to subtract tens and ones
use an open number line to subtract tens and ones
add up to subtract using an open number line
break apart 1-digit numbers to make it easier to subtract mentally
choose and use any strategy to subtract 2-digit numbers
solve one- and two-step problems using addition or subtraction
At-home Practice:
Supplies:
a deck of cards (remove all face cards)
Divide the deck evenly among the players. Keeping the cards face down, each player flips over 2 cards and subtracts the numbers to find the difference. Whoever's difference is smaller wins all of the cards. If the differences are the same, flip over 2 more cards and subtract those 2 cards. The player with the smallest difference wins all of the cards. Continue playing until one player has all of the cards.
