Graph Points on the Coordinate Plane

In this topic, students will:

Vocabulary:

Coordinate grid - used to locate points in a plane using an ordered pair of numbers. 

X-axis - a horizontal number line in the coordinate grid.

Y-axis - a vertical number line in the coordinate grid.

Origin - the point where the two axes of a coordinate grid intersect. It is represented by the ordered pair (0, 0)

Ordered pair - a pair of numbers used to locate a point on a coordinate grid.

X-coordinate - the first number in an ordered pair, which names the distance to the right or left along the x-axis

Y-coordinate - the second number in an ordered pair, which names the distance up or down from the origin along the y-axis.
