In this topic, students will:
order objects by length
indirectly compare objects by length
use small size objects to measure length
choose an appropriate tool and use it to measure the length of a given object
Vocabulary:
Length - the distance from one end of an object to the other end
Longest - The object that has the greatest length
Longer - an object that has a greater length than another object
Shorter - an object that has the lesser length
Shortest - the object that has the least length
Measure - you can use same-size length units to measure the length of an object
At-home Practice:
Supplies:
paper clips or any other small objects that can be used to measure
Find a small object around the house (ex. pencil, marker, remote, etc.). Use the paper clips (or other objects) and line them up to see how many paper clips long the object is. Continue to find objects and measure them. You can discuss which objects are longer or shorter.
The pencil is about 5 paper clips long.
