In this topic, students will:
tell if a group of objects is even or odd
use different ways to tell if a group of objects shows an even or odd number
find the total number of objects in a set of rows and columns
make arrays with equal rows or equal columns to solve addition problems
model problems using equations, drawings, and arrays
Vocabulary:
Even - a number that can be shown as pairs of cubes (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, etc.).
Odd - a number that can not be shown as pairs of cubes (1, 3, 5, 7, 9, etc.).
Array - a group of objects set in equal rows and columns that forms a rectangle.
Row - in an array, objects that are shown across are in a row.
Column - in an array, objects that are shown up and down are in a column.
At-home Practice:
Supplies:
a deck of cards
Turn over one card. The first player to “double” that number wins the card. (ex. a 4 is turned over, the players would add 4+4 and call out 8). Play continues until all cards are used. The player with the most cards at the end is the winner.
