In this topic, students will:
use patterns to count to 30 and 50
skip count by tens to 100
count by ones to 100
Vocabulary:
Tens - The part of a number that tells how many tens
Ones - the part of a number that tells how many ones
Column - columns go up and down
Hundred chart - a chart with the numbers 0 to 100.
Decade - the decade numbers are the numbers counted when counting by tens to 100.
At-home Practice:
Supplies:
A deck of cards with all face cards removed
Divide the cards evenly between the players. Player 1 turns over one card. Add a zero to the end of the number to make it a two-digit number (ex. Player 1 flips over a 3 and adds a zero to make the number 30). Player 2 then has to count up by tens correctly. (ex. If the number is 30, the player counts, “40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100”) If Player 2 counts correctly, he/she gets both cards. If not, Player 1 gets the cards. Play continues until all cards are used. The player with the most cards wins.
