In this topic, students will:
use mental-math strategies to multiply 2-digit multiples of 10 by 2-digit multiples of 10
use models and properties to multiply 2-digit numbers by multiples of 10
use rounding or compatible numbers to estimate products of two 2-digit numbers
use arrays, place value, partial products, and properties of operations to multiply two 2-digit numbers
use the Distributive Property and an area model to multiply two 2-digit numbers
use place value and partial products to calculate products of 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication problems
At-home Practice:
Supplies:
a deck of cards (remove all face cards)
scrap paper and pencil
Divide the deck evenly between players. Each player flips over 4 cards. Each player create two 2-digit numbers. Using scrap paper, each player should multiply the numbers and find the product (answer) (ex. Player 1 flips over the numbers 3, 5, 7, 2 and creates the numbers 35 and 72. Player 1 multiplies the numbers and finds the answer.) Each player compares their answers. The player with the highest answer wins all the cards. Continue playing until one player has all the cards.Â
