In this topic, students will:
draw and identify perpendicular, parallel, and intersecting lines
classify triangles by line segments and angles
classify quadrilaterals by lines and angles
recognize and draw lines of symmetry. Identify line symmetric figures
draw figures that line symmetry
Vocabulary:
Parallel lines - lines that never intersect
Perpendicular lines - lines that intersect to form right angles
Intersecting lines - lines that pass through the same point
Right triangle - a triangle that one right angle
Obtuse triangle - a triangle that has one obtuse angle
Acute triangle - a triangle that has three acute angles
Equilateral triangle - a triangle with three sides that are the same length
Isosceles triangle - a triangle with at least two sides that are the same length
Scalene triangle - a triangle with no sides that are the same length
Parallelogram - a quadrilateral that has two pairs of parallel sides
Rectangle - a quadrilateral that has four right angles
Square - a quadrilateral that has four right angles and all sides are the same length
Rhombus - a quadrilateral that has opposite sides that are parallel and all of its sides are the same length
Trapezoid - a quadrilateral with only one pair of parallel sides
Line symmetric - a figure is line-symmetric if it can be folded on a line to form halves that fit exactly on top of each other
Line of symmetry - the line on which a figure can be folded so both halves are the same
