FOCUS: Short Film Production
Module Name: Film Studio 2 (FLM215)
Students have the opportunity to develop a project from early ideation through to industry-standard screen production (script to screen). These projects introduce students to the procedures and protocols of screen production as well as further developing students' skills in cinematography, lighting, and sound. Students have the opportunity to workshop scripts in real-life studio situations, working with and directing actors, going through all stages of production processes, implementing good production design, and collaborating with students from other disciplines, particularly audio students, to produce their final first year short film projects.

FOCUS: Documentary Film Making
Module Name: Film Studio 3 (FLM225)
In this studio module, Documentary Production, projects are reflective of real-world scenarios. They showcase compelling stories, dilemmas, real-life situations, or societal issues that require solutions. Through short documentary projects filmed during in-class activities, and a main final documentary project for exhibition, students work in project teams towards understanding different documentary modes, writing a documentary proposal and a treatment, carrying out pre-production research, budgeting, and developing their pitching skills. Throughout the trimester, students hone their skills in cinematography, lighting, sound, interview techniques, location scouting, production design, and post-production, which culminate in the end-of-trimester showcase of their final documentary project.
Miscarriage is common, however it is not often openly spoken about. It is a deeply personal and varied experience for every woman as their situation is specific to them in terms of age, income, employment, education, relationship status, and family support. No story is the same. In Before The Rainbow we aim to give a raw, honest portrayal of real life experiences to give these women a voice and reduce the stigma surrounding this topic.
A hip hop event started by Jehmal Pitt who struggled to find gigs in Perth so decided to create his own night promoting local hip hop artist. The event was done at the Sewing room where 12 artist performed with 10 minute sets. The goal of this event was to create a hip hop community and show the talent in Perth. This Documentary will show the pre production phases of what goes into a event such as the rehearsals, marketing and get to know who Jehmal is.
I was inspired to make this documentary because I am a huge fan of hip hop music. Some of my favourite artist are Cypress Hill, Ocean wisdom, Wu Tang Clan and Denzel Curry. Dan and my self have been making music videos together with different artists so making a documentary about hip hop was right up our alley. After hearing what Jehmal was saying about the hip scene in Perth gave me many ideas to show this story and go into depth meeting rappers and show the hard work going into an event.

Proof of Blood follows the journey of Claudia Parsons, a fair-skinned Indigenous person, as she tries to understand her ancestors and seeks the acceptance of her culture. We explore her family's battles, look at her current connections to her culture as she establishes relationships with other young Indigenous people and an Aboriginal Elder. As the story unfolds she will not only learn more about her culture, but also come to understand her role and responsibility as a young Tasmanian Indigenous person.
Motivated by a recent Rocky marathon, a film student trains to fight a professional boxer in pursuit of his own Hollywood ending. With zero experience and maximum confidence Scott makes the decision to organise a fight against a professional boxer. With the goal of being ‘fight ready’ in 12 weeks Scott must improve his weight, fitness, knowledge, and strength to even stand a chance. As the fight draws closer Scott learns of the incredible dedication and sacrifice needed to stand toe to toe against his opponent, asking himself the whole time…what the hell was I thinking?
Guided by a Vegan Mentor, two young men embark on a month long journey, diving into the world of plant-based eating. Within my documentary I aim to share educational based training on plant-based eating. We will follow them on their journey tracking the ups and downs that accompany a change like this. Will they last the entire month? Is it enough to see real change in the two subjects?
Since you can’t taste or smell through a screen, my goal is show beautiful footage of incredible food that is sure to make your mouth water. Mixing the creativity of cinematography and precision of high end cooking, I hope to lead you on a delicious journey of wonderful "food porn". If I can get people excited about the food and show them how easy it is to make, they’re more likely to get involved with the movement.
A Massive thank you to my entire crew for helping me with this project!
I couldn't have done it without everyone's hard work and support!
