Indecisive is a social political magazine that brings a modern and stylistic design into an information heavy issue.
Taking some inspiration from other informative magazines such as National Geographic and The Times, my magazine tries to incorporate more imaging and stylistic choices for the reader.
Creating a more enjoyable experience will still providing important and sometimes bleak information.
A big thank you to Jaxon Williams for providing the two spreads on page 18 and 26 that display as advertisements.
The cover of my magazine went through quite a few different iterations. Being with a very stylistic 3D polygon form with high levels of shading and broken text. While this is what I originally planned for the magazine in general, the more I developed it the more it transitions to a more professional look.
You can see this change in the second cover in which the the focus changes from the text to the name and the symbol used. As well as the change in the 3D design that after more research became apparent was an outdated style. However my views on this cover all changed after mostly completing my content.
This is when it became obvious that I'd have to redo the design to suit more, which meant making it more of an upper class look, with fine lines and minimalistic elements outside of the type and symbolism. Drawing once again, more focus to the symbol and the name of the magazine.
For the spreads I decided on a very simple design and layout as previously stated the information was to be the focus of the work, merely accentuated by the styling around it. In this case I used an off white for the background of all pages of the spreads to keep the readability high but to take away the harsh white light reflected if left alone. This was actually a major decision as I have decided to use coated paper stocks for my print as I feel it fits the modern style of my magazine.
The other design choice I used was to add slight amounts of colour to each page both through images as well as shapes and typeface styling. As monotone colouring can get very boring and monotonous I used two different colours to add a spark to each page. This as shown is the red and blue. These are used through out half of the magazine each. The red covering the American section of the magazine and the Blue covering for the Australian half of the magazine.
All in all the intention of the design and styling was only to add to the experience of the reader rather than to be the focus of the reader, as with this genre of magazine the focus should always be on the type rather than the design.
For collaborative work I design a logo for a theoretical company for my partner's TAFE course in tourism. I did this as it felt fitting for the discipline I am part of as well as the work I aim to be doing in the future.
This was the logo that I created for my partners' TAFE Course.
The logo itself was made for a theoretical tourism company that she had created for an assignment and had asked me to make the logo.
I didn't want to create something that was too detailed nor something that could be construed in different ways, hence the simplicity of the design.
