The Right Track is a cathartic, 2D animated film inspired by real-life events.
It is set in a fictional, modern-day suburbia, taking place entirely on a set of train tracks. The story follows our protagonist Hallie, a twenty-something woman, on a train ride with her girlfriend, Allison. This being her first LGBT relationship, Hallie is openly affectionate, proud to be with someone she loves so much. But dirty looks from strangers become the catalyst to her own intrusive thoughts.
This project aims to spark discussion on the very real consequences of being out & proud in public. When we think of homophobia, we think of physical violence and verbal abuse. But homophobia can also be silent, and internalised. Although the Western world has become more accepting of LGBT folk over the past two decades, hate, ignorance and judgement toward them will still cause many people to be afraid of being true to themselves. In terms of social equality, we simply aren't there yet. But we are definitely on the right track.
