Reef Guardians

This trimester, my cohorts and I were tasked to create a project inspired by the hidden treasures of Western Australia. To fulfill this brief, I created the Reef Guardians; a series of epic, majestic creatures that pay tribute to the diversity and beauty of WA's flora and fauna brought to life through the use of online research, digital illustration, and motion graphics.

Brainstorming

My brainstorming process took me to the WA Museum Boola Bardip, as well as the SAE online library. I was particularly inspired by the Ruby Seadragon, a rare and dazzling species recently discovered in the depths of Western Australia.

Sketches

The following sketches show the iterations of the Guardians' designs.

The sketches next to me show the different ideas for the logo.

Illustration

Once I was certain with my sketches, I digitised them through Photoshop. I used the lineart as temporary guidelines, then filled in the colours, shading, and lighting.

These colour-coded tentacles are each set on their own separate layer, for the sake of easier animation in After Effects.

A semi-complete illustration of Ivy, my Numbat/Blue-ringed octopus Guardian.

Some kelp I illustrated as an additional background element.

Motion Graphics

Game Logo for SendClickerHere

I did this logo for SAE Game group SendClickerHere's game, 'Guild', which came in several different versions with differing colours and typography.

To my left is a mockup featuring the logo on a CD and a case.
