- S t o r y a n d a e s t h e t i c -
The story follows a girl who is situated within her own room. Within the room are all the telltale objects of a witch- yes a young witch who is bustling in the joy of her witchcraft. The world has been subjected to staying in doors during the trying time of COVID, meaning that most of us have been forced to spend time with ourselves at its most frightening mental levels. Yet some of us have really embraced the seclusion of this isolation, embracing the true deep of their being that they have always been too scared to actively express within the outside world. We follow a girl who has really embraced her inner imagination, she has created an escape in this time of hardship.
The story spans the day, the witch starting from her bed and as the day progresses she is situated in different areas of the room doing tasks. Such as, watering plants, brewing potions, writing in her journal, adjusting her witches hat. All the while, the sun rises and sets in the preview of a large window. The light and colours change over the life of the day, this is done in order to show that despite the escapism you have created for yourself, the world will still continue around you and a day is just another day that you have managed to get through.
- A n d t h e P u r p o s e ? -
What this project aims to achieve is the normalisation of chosen loneliness, the idea that being alone can sometimes be self inflicted in a positive and enlightening manner. Especially during the past year, we have seen a greater appreciation for honoring the time that we have with ourselves and the self growth that has been achieved through being alone. A celebration of self growth and discovery within our own company.

As Team Lead I had a very clear idea of how I wanted the character to look like, as well as the world she would be situated in. As a group we worked very well in regards to communicating, thus our project carried a consistent art style throughout the entire production.
From the beginning the original plan was to have a day cycle, in editing that was when we would implement it. I actually hand drew the lighting myself, and I believe that it ended up looking better than what I may have been able to create in a editing program.

Environment + Asset Concept ArtistLead Environment ArtistAsset Creator/AnimatorThe feel that we wanted to give the environment was a cosy cottage vibe, which also reflected the personality of the main character Sophie. We wanted to give the environment that seamless so when it is shown on Yagan digital tower you don't know when it starts or ends.
To help bring the environment to life, I animated some of the assets within the scene. So that no matter where you look on Yagan tower there will always be something moving.
