This film is about a small shack settlement located 2 hours north Perth called Wedge Island.
A bit like stepping back in time, Wedge Island has no power, no running water, no shops. But it has a vibrant, tight-knit community. This documentary will explore the history of the community and their way of life at Wedge Island that has evolved over 70 years. The film will reflect a lifestyle that has all but disappeared elsewhere in Western Australia and will follow the lives of a few locals who tell the story of its unique sense of place. But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. Since 1987 and the implementation of the state governments squatter policy, wedge island has been under constant threat to be demolished according to the state law. The doco will explore their fight to stand up against this bureaucratic policy to save their unique community.
