the task for this project was to score a short 60 second film provided by Film students. We were to dictate the mood, setting, Foley and FX. Using samples or creating the sounds ourselves to develop and environment and cause an emotive response in the viewer.

The Bloody Mary challenge is a classic folk tale now turned into a 60 second film. In the film the participant stands in the bathroom in the dark and says "Bloody Mary" in the mirror 3 times. This hails the evil spirit of Queen Mary who then haunts you until she finally scares the viewer at the end.

To write the score I first watched the original clip and thought about how it made me feel and what I would expect from other clips or films of this genre. I spent a bit of time just finding or making sounds that fit into the room, and decided I liked a mostly basic but raw sound; Strings and a studio piano playing the lowest scale possible really filling out the space. Something high and somewhat melodic but eerie was required to counter the low notes and was initially played in unison with the low notes then towards the end off setting these notes creating a "counting" effect towards the jump scare.
For the Foley and FX I used my phones voice memos to act and record the sounds required to fill out the rest of the space. This was simple things like the movement of the bed sheets and the phone being put down on the bed side table. I recorded a door creek before the bang just for that extra piece of audio information.

I made 2 versions of the clip for this project, they are virtually identical in every way bar my own re-edit is completely re dubbed and uses more foley and FX, with a small scene cut to black towards the end to increase the final jump scare, while the original audio edit uses the original audio assets that were provided with the clip.
