Will You Answer The Phone is a short, vertical slice of a character-driven story based on the consequences of the player's actions. It follows Alen Jones, a man who has lived a mostly peaceful life under the rule of the brotherhood, an authoritarian party that came to power in the last 5 years and has made great changes to the world, until his son engaged in anti-brotherhood activities and his life was thrown into ruin. He must now decide if he is happy with his life, or if he should follow his son's footprints.
The inspiration for Will You Answer the Phone's gameplay was taken heavily from Detroit: Become Human by Quantic Dreams, with the setting being derived from George Orwell's 1984. My initial goal with the game was to explore the human psyche, specifically emotions such as betrayal, primal fear and the such, and the lack of black and white definitions of good and evil, a trope I hope to explore in the future.
In the end, Will you Answer the Phone became something in between, looking at how the rebels see the brotherhood as evil and vice versa, while also looking into using characters to elicit emotions from a player.
