wire sculpture

The subject of this sculpture is an everyday coffee mug. I used both 18 and 28 gage wire in this piece. I choose to use a mug as a model because it fit the criteria for this project. It has an interesting composition and is bigger than my fist. Because the mug has a handle, it has a complexed composition because it sticks off of the base.

In this project, you can see that I used the fish hook method to attach the wire(s) to each other. I used the thinner wire (28 gage) as a way to make sure the wires in the circles did not separate. This did not connect them, but it held them together. Multiple times I went back and redid all of the connecting wires because their lengths were not even, and I had to reconnect many of the fishhooks.

This artwork relates to my life because it is of a mug I use almost everyday. If something in this piece could be stronger, it would be the length of one of the wires. One of them is shorter than the others, but in the long run-it is barely noticeable.
