Scrafito Tile

The subject of this piece is a clay tile that has a design on the surface. I used clay, scratching tools, a certain kind of glaze, and my imagination to make this . I choose this design because although it is common, it is very pretty and interesting. The pattern is unique.

The whole tile is covered, and there is barely and negative space. I tried to make the arrangement so that the designs followed the shape of the tile. In the beginning of making this piece, I changed my mind multiple times, but from that indecisiveness came an intricate design.

This art is supposed to show multiple patterns that fit together and work. Almost like a puzzle. The patterns on the tile remind me of Indian henna tattoos and cultural symbols. I think that certain lines and scratches on the tile could have been bolder or neater, and if I could go back and fix them-I would.
