Independent design

The focus of this project is a picture of my mom and I. This work was made with graphite and charcoal. I also used one of my favorite methods to create mixed media pieces: the grid method. I chose to make this project as my independent design because mixed media was my favorite project all year. I wanted to draw a picture that that I loved too.

In this artwork I show value, balance, and sharp focus. My project was originally going to be about 3 sizes bigger, but I decided that I usually make things more accurate with smaller paper and grids.

This picture was taken by a friend after we had gone apple picking in the fall. My mother hates taking pictures, so I cherish the opportunity I had to draw this rare moment. If I could change something about this piece it would be the mouths. No matter how hard or how many times I tried to make the mouths accurate, I just could not get them to look right. This was a learning experience to teach me to keep trying.
