scratchboard value strip

The subject of this artwork is light to dark value strip. To make this, I used a piece of scratchboard, etching tools, and a sense of light to dark. I choose to make this specific piece in order to practice using scratch board + etching tools and how to pull out highlights.

Grouping is a composition technique shown in this piece because the values are grouped from light to dark. My piece changed from a single section with nothing but white, to a strip of multiple different shades.

The purpose or meaning of this artwork was to show that you can make different shades/values by making scratches; either closer together for a lighter shade or farther with less scratches for a darker shade. This project does not relate to my life, but I have done value strips similar to this. If I could change one thing about my artwork it would be the sixth and seventh shades because they are too similar.
