I am calling this piece "City of layers" as it shows how there is more to a city than just its outline. To construct this piece I used the program Cricut to digitally design each building and shape. I then developed the idea to show the city in multiple layers, so I chose three different colors of construction paper and copied my design, with the intention of making each layer smaller than the one before. As I assembled my work I realized that it was kind of boring, I wanted to make it interesting. I decided to draw the little boy with a fishing pole from the Dreamworks Production logo. I also added one big cloud of stars hovering in the night sky.
This work is set in a city, any city really, that has buildings big and high enough to see from a distance. I chose a cityscape because cities are set up geometrically and the outlines of many buildings are easy to recreate. This piece relates to me because I have always wanted to see the skyline of a city at night, looking over the hundreds of buildings and creations would be amazing to witness.
The materials I used for this project were Cricut, a 3D printer, construction paper as my base, and a glue stick as adhesive. For the boy on the moon and the stars I chose to use colored pencils to create a soft and blended look. The goal of this project was to familiarize ourselves with how to build a relief sculpture using 3D printing technology.
If I could change anything about how this project came out it would be that I would have added more layers of paper to make the relief come off the paper more. I did not have a lot of space on my piece or a lot of time, so I worked with what I was able to do.
