The subject of this piece is an elephant. To make this, I used cardboard, patience, hot glue, paint, and paint chips. I chose to create this specific art piece because right around the time of this assignment, senior projects were going on and one of them was about raising awareness on elephants. I used form for the body of the elephant, texture for the outside of it, and color on the whole piece.
My project was originally supposed to be an elephant head with no body, but as I began this, I realized it did not look like what I wanted it too. With tons of trial/ error and frustration, I was able to create this final piece.
This sculpture is supposed to portray a wild elephant, it relates to my because and event in my life inspired me to build it. I was moved/touched by a senior project that was about raising money and awareness for elephants in Thailand. The project taught me about poaching and what is really happening to wild elephants. If anything in this piece could be different, it would be the legs. the structure does not stand very well on its own because the legs are either un even or too flimsy. If I could go back, I would use a thicker and more reliable material.
