"Telling an old tale"
ARTIST STATEMENT
This image took a lot of digging, literally. I went through the attic, old drawers, bags and whatnot to find what is in this image. I have items from my father, mother, each of their parents, and even my dads grandfather. All of which came from, were made by, or remind me of them. The fun part of this project was picking and choosing what to use to make it all fit into the parameters I had set. Meaning the square. The background in bland I know, but otherwise it would have taken away from all of the items, plus there is plenty going on in this image anyway. I found it hard to incorporate many of the composition techniques in this image, but I tired to make up for it with creativity. I ended up with some good informal balance and angle down though. I turned sepia all the way up because it helps with the feeling of family history and I really like how it compliments the navy hat and takes away the distracting color of the floor. I'm really happy with how this image turned out especially due to the amount of time I put into, even though it was fun. I know the square is not perfect, but that shows family history within itself, because neither are we.
