Film: Thanksgiving

ARTIST STATEMENT

For this image I attempted to take pictures at my Thanksgiving dinner, but unfortunately my camera broke. I had to use the camera in the classroom to take pictures at lunch. I'm almost glad my camera broke though because I'm very happy with how this image turned out. Thanksgiving doesn't only have to show the gathering of family, but also the gathering of friends. At lunch a bunch of friends were fathered together enjoying a video on a laptop. Although some parts are too light, like faces, I think this image turned out pretty well. I had to use a filter to make the darks darker and then had to shade and dodge the dark parts to make the whites darker and show up better. I needed to use many test strips in order to find the right exposure and aperture. I'm glad that this image shows friends instead of family to represent friends choosing to spend time together rather than having to spend time with your family because they are your family. It connects to my life because these are my friends and hanging out with them always puts me in a better mood.
