Film: Reflective Self Portrait

"Taking a look at the big picture"

ARTIST STATEMENT

For this image I followed one of my 3 original ideas. Although hard to see, this is an image of me standing at the end of a dock and pointing the camera directly down at the water to show myself. To take this picture I went down to my favorite place: the marina. I was walking around there with a few friends taking pictures of anything reflective and this ended up being my favorite one. Black & White isn't my favorite because it's hard to represent the range of values and the original shows a lot more detail. Besides the quality I really like this image, it has enough going on, but not too much. It's simple, a lot of negative space that were clouds in the original, with just enough of the dock and my shoes showing at the bottom. My head is almost in the middle enough to call this formal balance which I don't have a lot of experience with because I like rule of thirds so much. If I had more time to work on this project I would obviously spend time in the darkroom fixing the gray of this image. That is the only major fault I see in this picture, besides that I am happy with it.
