ARTIST STATEMENT

I took this image on our snowday. I had just finished a nice snowshoe through the woods, it was beautiful. What most surprised me about this image was that the woodpecker stayed still for so long when I was no more than 15 ft away. I used the manual mode on my camera to make the image darker than auto allowed. I like the way that the fresh snow is sitting on the branch and the natural pattern of the tree bark. If I could change something about this image I might choose to make it a bit lighter, but overall I'm very pleased with how it turned out.
